Methodology
How OSH collects, verifies and computes the data behind every story and registry.
Sources
OSH uses public sources only: official company and investor announcements, regulatory filings (such as SEC Form D), official program pages, press releases and independent reporting. OSH does not scrape paywalled content or proprietary databases. Every fact on the site links to at least one source; quotes are at most 15 words, one per source.
Verification levels
- Public sources — Collected from public sources, not yet cross-checked. — collected from public sources, not yet cross-checked.
- Verified by OSH — Confirmed by at least two independent sources or a primary document (filing, official announcement). — confirmed by at least two independent sources, or by one primary document (an official announcement, a filing, an official program page).
- Confirmed by company — A verified company representative confirmed this profile. — a verified company representative confirmed the profile.
Rounds
A round is recorded when an official announcement, a filing or reporting describes it. Reports about the same company and stage within 45 days, with amounts within 10% of each other (or one undisclosed), are treated as the same round and their sources combined. When sources disagree on a disclosed amount, OSH keeps the first sourced figure and flags the conflict for review.
Amounts in other currencies are converted to US dollars at the reference rate on the announcement date; the rate and its date are stored with the round. Undisclosed amounts are shown as “Undisclosed” and never estimated. A company’s total raised adds up its disclosed rounds only.
Companies and investors
Companies are matched by website domain, then LinkedIn page, then name and country. Similar names are never merged automatically. An investor’s “looking for” comes from what the investor publishes; when OSH derives it from deals, it says so. Deal counts (30, 90 and 365 days), lead counts, co-investors and median disclosed round size are computed from OSH Rounds.
Programs
Program status is computed from the dates on the official page: open, closing soon (within 14 days), closed, rolling, or opening soon. When a deadline time or time zone isn’t stated, the deadline counts until the end of that day anywhere on Earth. Applications always go through the official page.
Corrections and updates
Registries update continuously as new sources appear; each record shows when it was last verified. People listed are limited to public professional information. Anyone can suggest a correction; confirmed corrections appear in the corrections log.
